Red Flag: Coronavirus outbreak
Shi Zhengli has raised a red flag about the high prospect of another coronavirus outbreak in future. The concern was raised after her recent research was published. Further, the study reveals that future virus emergence is certain as different coronavirus species are spilling into human population.
The research and Analysis
After a prolonged period of research on coronavirus, Shi and her teammates at the Wuhan Institute of Virology published a general in July 2023. The general raised serious concerns of 40 different coronavirus species spilling over into human populations. Alarmingly, half of these species were classified as “highly risky.”
Further, among them six have already being marked as causing diseases in humans. Furthermore, evidence suggests that three more have caused diseases or infected various animal species. The study’s conclusion was candid stating, “It is almost certain that there will be future disease emergence, and it is highly likely a coronavirus disease again.”
Additionally, the assessment was based on a thorough analysis of viral characteristics, encompassing population dynamics, genetic diversity, host species, and past instances of zoonosis – the transmission of diseases from animals to humans.

As per reports, the Wuhan Institute of Virology expert, Shi Zhengli is known as “Batwoman.” She is known for her expertise on viruses originating from animals especially from bats and transforming to humans.
