Google unveils new Project to prevent Scams

The tech giant during its 9th edition of the Google for India event, unveiled a new project known as DigiKavach. The project is a comprehensive approach to enhance online security of Indian users from financial frauds.

Further, with the emergence of online banking and boost in financial technology, swindles and malwares are rising. As a result, to strive against this threat, Google has rolled out DigiKavach.

DigiKavach is a comprehensive solution for threat detection designed to identify and analyze malware functions before they cause any harm. Further, Google DigiKavach develops and implements effective countermeasures before these fraud patterns cause widespread harm.

It leverages a collective, proactive, responsible approach to cross share learnings and insights quickly and effectively with committed partners across the ecosystem.

By studying the methods and modus operandi of scammers and collaborating with the wider ecosystem of experts, the program aims to identify and mitigate new frauds and collectively help create a safer and more secure digital ecosystem for all.

Program’s Objective

Google has collaborated with The Fintech Association for Consumer Empowerment (FACE) and onboarded them as a priority flagger to combat predatory digital lending apps on Play Store in India. As a priority flagger, FACE will support Google with market intelligence to inform detection and enable swift action against personal loan apps in India non-compliant with Play Store’s policies.

The program’s core objective is to study the strategies employed by scammers. Further, allowing Google to design a new program that can counteract emerging online swindles. Furthermore, the approach is to stay ahead of hackers and continuously adapt to the evolving prospect of online threats.

Google’s Contribution

Google Play Protect: For Android users, Google Play Protect is a built-in defense mechanism. Further, this service scans approximately 120 billion Android apps for malware detection. Henceforth, reducing the risk of downloading threat to your smartphones.

Google Pay Safety Alerts: Google Pay employs machine learning and artificial intelligence to identify phishing and other fraud risks when users send and receive money.
