Latest study reveals Frozen products can cause Food Poisoning

US Health administration warns the use of Frozen chicken products in air fryers as can cause food poisoning

The United States health administration warned the use of microwaves and air fryers for frozen chicken products.

Salmonella Bacteria

As per US health body, while preparing frozen stuffed chicken at home in microwaves could be poisonous as it contains salmonella bacteria.

The report, by the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), stated that cooking ‘breaded’ things like chicken stuffed with broccoli and cheese, chicken cordon blue and chicken Kyiv, need to be heated in a conventional oven since they might have raw chicken inside.

The study reports that frozen stuffed chicken products as they are partially cooked to set the breeding often indicate to salmonella outbreaks. Due to this manufacturers and producers started putting warning labels to clearly identify these products as raw and warn against using microwaves to prepare them.

Frozen chicken products

According to CDC report:

Frozen chicken should be heated at a temperature of 72 degree Celsius or even higher temperature to kill the bacteria

Most appliances heat one part of food, leaving other side raw and hence do not kill the bacteria.

In the US, from 4,142 adults, 2,546 of them prepare frozen stuffed chicken products at home.

Among these, 30 per cent of people used air fryers, 29 per cent used microwaves, 14 per cent used toaster ovens and 4 per cent used other appliances.

In 2021, 36 similar infections and 12 cases of hospitalization were reported in the United States.

The bacteria-related disease causes over 1.35 million infections, 26,500 hospitalizations and 420 deaths in the United States every year.

However, the study revealed that the first salmonella outbreak in Finland was reported in 2021. The outbreak was caused due to frozen tomato cubes.

The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) was informed of 44 outbreak-related patients.

How to cease salmonella outbreaks?

In addition, to halt salmonella outbreaks avoid using microwaves and airfryers for heating frozen food products.

The latest studies reveal that the use of microwaves can hamper our health. The findings also indicate to alter our cooking methods.
