Meta unveiled free AI large Language model competing ChatGPT and Google
Facebook parent Meta launched AI large Language model known as LLaMA 2, free for research and commercial use.
Free AI Language model
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta unveiled that the company is collaborating with Microsoft to launch large AI Language model. This model is known as LLaMA 2, which is said to be free for research and commercial use.
Further, according to the company this is a competitive move against OpenAI and Google Bard.
Earlier, LLaMA AI model was available only for academics. However, the large language model is available to public for research and commercial use too. Furthermore, the model will be available through Microsoft’s Azure platform.
AI System
Unlike other tech giants, Meta has also gathered a team of expertise and scientists who worked on this language model. However, due to ChatGPT taking the limelight, LLaMA got overshadowed.
Apart from this, Meta claims to distinguish itself from other tech rivals by providing wide range of data. In addition, the AI system is build using open-source code. This means that anyone can look how it works and change it accordingly.
“Open source drives innovation because it enables many more developers to build with new technology,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post.
He further added, “It also improves safety and security because when software is open, more people can scrutinize it to identify and fix potential issues.”
Llama 2
The new version is trained more using 40 percent more data from the previous one. Furthermore, to increase the output quality, the model uses over 1 million user experiences.
“Commercial Llama could change the picture,” said Amjad Masad, chief executive at software developer platform Replit, who said more than 80 per cent of projects there use OpenAI’s models.
“Any incremental improvement in open-source models is eating into the market share of closed-source models because you can run them cheaply and have less dependency,” said Masad.
In addition, Mark Zuckerberg in a blog post said, this model will provide support to users for additional purposes.
Availability
The model will be available for direct download and through various providers such as Amazon Web Services and Hugging Face.
