Lensa AI’s new “Magic Avatar” feature is all the rage online and has had a notable impact on the App Store’s Top Charts.
If you have logged into any social media app this week, then chances are probably high that you are going to see your friends with new avatars pictures.
It is all due to the popular photo and video editing app, Lensa AI, making magic avatars powered by the open source Stable Diffusion model, allowing users to turn their selfies into styled portraits of themselves as sci-fi or fantasy characters, among other artistic renderings.

Apart from that, in plastic surgery offices, some patients are willing to pay for those images to become them in real life.
Dr. Terry Dubrow, who cohosts “Botched,” stated that 2 people have already approached him asking if he can turn them into their Lensa AI self-portraits, which were generated by the app.

How to get your own ‘magic avatar’?
The pictures making the rounds online are products of Lensa’s “Magic Avatars” function. To try it out, you’ll need to first download the Lensa app on your phone.
To get access to this photo editing app services, you need to subscribe with $ 35.99 yearly. You can also opt for free trial option available for a week before committing.
Furthermore, generating the magic avatars requires an additional fee. As long as you have a subscription or free trial, you can get 50 avatars for $3.99, 100 for $5.99 and 200 for $7.99.
Lensa recommends the pictures should be close-up of your face with a variety of different backgrounds, facial expressions, and angles. Lensa also set forth the age limit that it should only be used by people who are 13 and older.
The app explains in its privacy policy the use of TrueDepth API technology, the user-provided photos and “face data,” are used “to train our algorithms to perform better and show you better results”.

Further, for app testing, 20 selfies was assisted with diversity of expressions, angels, variant backgrounds and opted for 100 avatar. Lensa AI took around 20 minutes to return the magic avatars. The avatars were further elaborated into 10 categories: fantasy, fairy princess, focus, pop, stylish, anime, light, kawaii, iridescent and cosmic.
To be more precise, some of the images were more realistic and one could relate to them. On the other hand, some of them were more like stylish and artistic and unrecognizable.

The No. 1 spot on the U.S. App Store, continues to be held by Lensa AI. The store saw 12.6 million global installs in the first 11 days of December. Similarly, 1.8 million installs was seen during time frame in November (November 20 through November 30). The data was analysed according to new data from App Store intelligence firm Sensor Tower.
