Apple’s anticipated mixed-reality headset will include auto-adjusting lenses. The headset will have a physical watch face that wearers can use to switch between VR and real life.
The company hasn’t officially announced the mixed reality headset. However, as per reports, it will look alike ski goggles and have multiple cameras for augmented and virtual reality. The latest version of Apple’s Airpods Pro was reportedly designed to sync with the headset.

The auto-adjusting lenses are designed to align the wearer’s pupils with the headset displays so they have the widest possible field of view. People with glasses will reportedly be able to have custom lenses that attach to the headset via magnets.
Apple has not responded to any of the requests made by insiders to comment on the product, the expected headset or its features ahead of release.
When it launches, the headset will be the newest lineup since the Apple Watch was released in 2015. Apple has been working on the headset for seven years. As per reports, the company originally planned to release it in 2019, in May.
However, the product was expected to ship by the end of 2022, but the target was missed.
Release Date
In December, the headset’s operating software name was changed from “realityOS” to “xrOS.” Further, added that the headset’s hardware may also share the same name. The move to “xr,” which stands for Extended Reality, signals that the headset is expected to include both AR and VR capabilities.
The headset has experienced setbacks for years as it has gone through different versions. The technology development group working on project faced manpower issues. Earlier they had to compete with other Apple teams for engineers. However, now they have employed thousand of employees.
Earlier last year, the headset was in an assembly phase at Taiwanese manufacturer Pegatron, having passed several prototype phases and technical validation testing to see if it could be mass-produced, according to The Information.
In December, Apple analyst Ming Chi Kuo analysed and tweeted that bulk shipments of Apple’s headsets could be delayed to the second half of 2023 “due to software-related issues.” He predicted the company will likely ship fewer than 500,000 headsets this year due to product shipment delays.
The headset is expected to cost at least $3,000. In addition, people close to the project told that price may be double the price of Meta’s first AR/VR headset.
In early December, VR headset sales were down 2% year over year, CNBC reported. CCS Insight expects 2023 to be “another slow year” for AR and VR devices due to high inflation and a weak economy.
