Smartphones have become a crucial aspect of our everyday lives, and we rarely go without them. With that comes constant physical contact with these devices, which has sparked health risk concerns due to the radiation they emit.
While, the science on the risks of prolonged exposure remains inconclusive, the German Federal Office for Radiation Protection has compiled data on smartphones that emit the most and least radiation.
The phones are ranked by the specific absorption rate (SAR) when calling with the phone placed to the ear. It’s expressed in watts per kilogram of body weight.

This model from Motorola tops the list with a SAR of 1.79.
ZTE Axon 11 5G
The Chinese company makes its first appearance on the list at a rate of 1.59.
OnePlus 6T
This model from the Chinese company emits a SAR of 1.55 watts per kilogram.
Sony Xperia XA2 Plus
The Japanese company makes an appearance on the list with one of the highest radiation-emitting phones with a SAR of 1.41.
Google Pixel 3 XL
The tech giant makes it first of many appearances with this model, at 1.39 watts per kilogram.
Google Pixel 4a
Another Google phone, this model has a SAR of 1.37 watts per kilogram.
Oppo Reno5 5G
This model from Chinese company Oppo has a SAR of 1.37 watts per kilogram.

Sony makes its second appearance on this list, with the Xperia XZ1 Compact, which has a SAR of 1.36.

With models on both ends of the radiation spectrum, this ZTE model has the lowest SAR on the list, at 0.13.

The South Korean company will appear a lot on this list. Its first entry is this model with a SAR of 0.19 watts per kilogram.
